Learn how to improve literacy skills and inspire students to love reading.

For more than 80 years, TWU has been educating teachers to become literacy leaders. As a graduate of one of our programs, you can contribute to scholarly conversation in literacy education and develop expertise to support students' literacy achievements at all levels.

Many of our courses are offered in a blended format, providing the perfect balance of practice and theory. You will emerge fully prepared for your teaching certification, graduate-level reading specialist certifications or for work in a university setting.

Plus, you will learn from experienced faculty, many of whom are involved in the university's Reading Recovery center, one of only 18 in the nation.

Your education experience at TWU will be a truly unique one.

Academic Programs

We offer initial teaching certification as well as graduate and doctoral programs in Reading Education and certification as a K-12 reading specialist or master reading teacher. Our department also provides reading courses for undergraduate and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees for the department of Teacher Education.
