TWU grant team hosts sexual assault prevention conference

Feb. 26, 2018 - DALLAS - Texas Woman’s University, leader of Texas’s Cultivating Safe College Campuses (CSCC) grant team, is conducting its inaugural "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Campus Assault Prevention and Response" conference March 1-2 at the Southern Methodist University’s Dallas campus.

This conference is funded by a CSCC grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. As part of this grant, Texas Woman’s University leads a consortium of nine Texas colleges and universities and five organizations to create a consistent, effective response to sexual assault on college campuses across the state.

Conference keynote speakers include Dorothy Edwards, Ph.D., president of Alteristic and author of the Green Dot Prevention Strategy, who will discuss bystander intervention; and Title IX Education Specialist Sam Wilmoth from West Virginia University, who will provide training to identify and understand how trauma survivors feel and act.

Additional speakers will present information related to sexual assault on college campuses. Topics include:

  • The Blueprint for Campus Police: Responding to Sexual Assault
  • LGBTQ + Affirming Sexual Assault Prevention and Response
  • Legal Rights of Sexual Assault Survivors
  • National Panhellenic Conference: Greek Allies on Campus
  • Unreadable and Underreported: Can College Students Comprehend How To Report Sexual Violence?
  • WOKE: Involving Men in Prevention

“Conference participants will hear best practices from experts in the field,” said Donna Scott Tilley, Ph.D., TWU’s vice provost for research and key organizer of the CSCC conference. “It’s important that the broader community of institutions of higher education get together to share information. It strengthens our response to sexual assault. We have to get it right.”

More information about the conference can be found on the Cultivating Safe College Campuses website.
