TWU Dance presents Jordan Fuchs Company Sept. 10-11

Jordan Fuchs' Dance Company performance

September 1, 2021 – DENTON – The Texas Woman’s University Division of Dance presents the Jordan Fuchs Company in a concert of premieres for the stage and screen Sept. 10-11. Fuchs, a professor of dance at TWU, is joined by a cast of students and alumni for an event two years in the making.

The concert, which was previously postponed due to the pandemic, will feature four new, original music compositions by Andy Russ and Joseph Klein, a live performance by TWU Professor of Piano Rich Shuster, and Fuchs’ first solo performance in two years.

Performances are 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 11, in the DGL Dance Studio Theater on TWU’s Denton campus. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for general admission and must be purchased online and in advance.

To maximize social distancing, the audience is limited to less than 25% of full capacity — approximately 20 audience members per show. All audience members are strongly encouraged to wear a mask. For more information, visit the TWU Dance Concerts page, email dance@twu.edu or call 940-898-2086.

The concert opens with Fuchs’ 2020 screen dance, “Quartet with Walls.” Four dancers isolated in time, unaware of the impact of their actions on others, reveal intersections of place, movement, color and sound in a syncopated dialogue of listening, seeing and sensing.

The second work, “Chain of Circumstances,” features dancing by Fuchs and a live piano performance by Shuster in an ever-changing sonic canvas full of intriguing psychological spaces. “Chain of Circumstances” was created in collaboration with composer and Chair of Composition Studies at UNT, Professor Joseph Klein.

Fuchs’ 2021 screen dance “Pressing” uses video to counter-intuitively highlight moments of stillness rather than motion in an intimate vision of entwined bodies creating glowing, breathing puzzles of color and identity.

Closing the evening is Fuchs’ latest dance, the quintet “Held,” created in collaboration with dancers Annalise Boydston, Whitney Geldon, Irving Maldonado, Reyna Mondragon and Martheya Nygaard. “Held” explores what it is to support one another, using touch and weight as metaphors for what it is to be together and apart.
