TWU Theatre presents ‘Emilie: La Marquise Du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight’

‘Emilie: La Marquise Du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight’ written on a chalkboard with production dates Feb. 13-17

 

Jan. 31, 2019 —DENTON— The Texas Woman’s University Theatre Program opens the Spring 2019 semester with Emilie: La Marquise de Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight, written by America’s most produced contemporary playwright, Lauren Gunderson.

Performance times are:

  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13;
  • 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14;
  • 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15;
  • 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16; and
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.

All performances will take place in the Redbud Theater Complex on the north side of Hubbard Hall on TWU’s Denton campus. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. TWU Theatre Program director Patrick Bynane, Ph.D., will direct. The title character, Emilie La Marquise du Châtelet - scientist, mathematician, philosophe, translator of Isaac Newton and Voltaire’s lover - returns to life to set her affairs in order and answer the question: How does one choose between a life of the heart and a life of the mind? 

The cast of Emilie features undergraduate students Walker Delk, Bryce Neel, Katherine Hogan, Lauren Jordan and Jordan James.

This production will feature Long Ho as lighting designer with mentorship from guest artist and instructor Amy Poe. Associate professor Rhonda Gorman will serve as set and costume designer, Patrick Bohmier as sound designer and Zareen Afzaal as properties supervisor. Undergraduate students Sydney Sandburg will be stage manager and Hope Warner and Tatum Pecora will serve as assistant stage managers.
