TWU's Gary Ray to join Lee University Hall of Fame

Gary Ray

DENTON— Gary Ray, vice president for enrollment services at Texas Woman’s University, will be inducted into the Lee University (Cleveland, Tennessee) Hall of Fame during ceremonies scheduled Friday, Nov. 6.

The Lee Athletic Department will recognize Ray for distinguished service. Two others also will join the university’s hall of fame during ceremonies Friday evening in the Administration Building’s Centenary Room.

Ray played for the Lee Vikings men’s basketball team from 1977 to 1981. During that time, the team won four straight NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) District 5 championships and finished in the top three in the NCCAA National Tournament four years in a row.

He also was the men’s assistant basketball coach from 1985 to 1987 and was the university’s head tennis coach in 1987.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to be recognized by my alma mater,” Ray said. “Lee University made a life-changing investment in my personal development. It was an honor to be an athlete, coach and administrator at Lee.”

Ray received his bachelor’s degree from Lee University and his master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee. He worked for almost 20 years in senior management at Lee, beginning as chief enrollment officer in 1990. He later served as director of admissions and vice president of enrollment management and university relations before being named vice president of administration in 2006. He was assigned to work with athletics that same year, a period in which Lee became an NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) power. The university now is a member of the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference.

He joined TWU in 2010.
