Financial Aid

As a music major, you may be eligible for scholarship support from a wide array of sources, both within and outside of TWU. If you are seeking financial aid, you are strongly encouraged to apply for assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans, through the Office of Financial Aid, which will provide comprehensive financial aid application information and resources.

Music Scholarships

Lily Mildred Hodges Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship that provides for music education majors who are in their final year of study and are also student teaching in the spring of the semester the scholarship is given. This scholarship was established by Dr. Effie Creamer in honor of Lily Mildred Hodges and her love of music education.

Caroline Barbee Bellamy Endowed Music Scholarship

A scholarship fund in the name of Mrs. Caroline Barbee Bellamy, an alumna of Texas Woman’s University, to provide scholarships for students majoring in music.

Richard and Marji Bentley Music Scholarship Endowment

A scholarship fund established by Dr. and Mrs. Bentley to provide scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in music education. Dr. Bentley is Professor Emeritus of Music at Texas Woman’s University.

Sarah Verna Cox Coffey Endowed Scholarship

A fund intended to provide scholarships for full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in music with a preference in piano.

Mary Beth Glover Endowment Fund

This fund supports scholarships of which 25% is designated for the division of music, 25% for the division of visual arts, and 50% for the school of management.

Betty King Music Scholarship

This fund is available to all music students with a preference given to music therapy majors.

Brian K. Leavell Music Education Memorial Scholarship Endowment

A fund intended for the support of undergraduate or graduate music education majors. Dr. Brian Leavell was a former band director and professor at Texas Woman's University. 

Lee R. and Virgie McDonald Scholarship Endowment

A fund intended for the support of junior or senior students at Texas Woman’s University majoring in piano.

Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award

This award is given annually to an outstanding music major at or after the end of her/his junior year, intended to provide substantial financial support during the student’s senior year. The award is a prestigious one with the choice of recipient guided solely by consideration of excellence and merit. Funding of this award is provided by the Presser Foundation, namesake of Theodore Presser, founder of the music publishing company that bears his name. TWU’s division of music is one of a select group nationwide selected by the Presser Foundation to receive this distinctive award each year.

Rosabelle R. Pridmore Endowed Memorial Scholarship

A fund established by Mr. James A. Pridmore in memory of Rosabelle Ragin Pridmore, an alumna of Texas Woman’s University, intended to support deserving undergraduate and graduate students with preference given to music students.

Richard Rodean Music Scholarship Endowment

A fund intended to provide scholarship support for students majoring in music, named for Dr. Richard Rodean, professor emeritus of music at Texas Woman’s University and former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Rudd Endowed Scholarship and Loan Fund

A fund established by William Lee and Ruth Crosby Rudd to be used for the benefit of students majoring in music.

Dr. Richard J. Shuster Honorary Endowed Scholarship

A fund established by Dr. David L. Ring and Mrs. Karen R. Ring in honor of Dr. Richard Shuster. This fund provides scholarships for students obtaining a master of arts in music with an emphasis in music pedagogy or performance whose primary instrument is piano.

Marion E. Jones Snowden Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Marion Elizabeth Jones, a former student of Texas Woman’s University, intended to support students who show financial need and are majoring in music.

Frances Tretton Music Therapy Scholarship

A fund designated for support of music therapy students.

Additional Scholarships

The division of music also provides information on other scholarship opportunities for music students made available periodically by various outside organizations, including the Texas Federation of Music Clubs, Performing Arts Fort Worth, and the international music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota.
