The Texas Woman’s University Division of Music is proud to present our 2nd annual TWU Piano Institute!

Please join us in-person on the Denton campus June 25-July 1 for a week of intensive piano study and performance with our world-class faculty and guest artists.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be in grades 7 through 12 to apply and currently studying piano with a teacher.
  • Every student is guaranteed at least 2 private lessons in addition to the included coursework. Masterclass performers are decided based on the camp video auditions.
  • A maximum of 30 applicants will be accepted.
  • The two registration options are: residential (staying on campus, in the TWU dorms), or commuter (commuting each day from home). 

Tuition and Fees

  • If accepted to the institute, attendees must register and pay a non-refundable tuition fee via our registration page. 
  • Tuition fees for residential students are as follows: 
    • $675 for applications submitted by May 1 (early bird)
    • $700 for applications submitted by June 1 (standard)
    • $750 for applications submitted by June 15 (late registration) 
    • Included in the residential fee are all lessons, classes, performances, meals, and housing. Travel arrangements are not included. Students must bring their own linens and blankets for the dorms as well as wash rags and towels. No laundry service is available.
  • Tuition fees for commuter students are as follows: 
    • $475 for applications submitted by May 1 (early bird)
    • $500 for applications submitted by June 1 (standard)
    • $550 for applications submitted by June 15 (late registration) 
    • Included in the commuter fee are all lessons, classes, performances, and lunches. 

Schedule

All students will receive two private piano lessons with different instructors. Eleven students will be chosen for the masterclass performances based on the audition videos.

How to apply

Audition Requirements

  • At least two solo works of contrasting styles demonstrating the technical and musical abilities of the applicant should be included via video link(s)
  • Masterclass participants will be determined based upon the audition videos
  • Repertoire should be at an intermediate level of difficulty or higher (Royal Conservatory of Music’s Level 5 and/or Jane Magrath’s Level 5 is a good gauge for this)
  • Provide a brief letter of support from current piano teacher
  • Applications are due no later than June 10, 2023 at 11:59pm.

Upon acceptance to the 2023 Piano Institute, participants must register and pay the non-refundable tuition fee here. Additionally, participants must complete a medical release and photographic consent form here. Registration, payment, and forms are due no later than June 15, 2023
