SACS Accreditation
Texas Woman’s University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of Texas Woman’s University may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404) 679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website (www.sacscoc.org).
Every ten years each accredited institution undergoes intensive off-site and on-site reviews to maintain its accreditation. TWU was re-accredited in 2013 and is scheduled for re-accreditation in 2023. Annually TWU prepares and submits an updated Institutional Profile and financial report. Midway between accreditations the university is also required to prepare an abbreviated compliance report entitled the Five Year Interim Report. In addition, if the university makes certain substantive changes, it must notify or receive prior approval from SACS. In some instances prior approval will be granted only after a site visit.

Each year SACS holds an annual meeting where SACS commissioners make decisions about new institutions being considered for initial accreditation and already accredited institutions seeking re-accreditation. There are also numerous presentations from member institutions to demonstrate best practices.
SACS also provides an opportunity for more intense and focused discussion of accreditation issues and sharing of best practices. Enrollment in the Quality Enhancement Institute is purposely limited in order to provide a more intimate and casual setting. It thereby provides greater opportunity for institutional representatives to meet informally with SACS staff and representatives of other institutions.
