Bachelor of Science in Child Development

The child development/early childhood education program prepares you for a variety of professional roles focused on serving the needs of children and their families.

Help parents increase their childrearing skills as a parent educator; administer children’s programs in public or private agencies; prepare for a graduate-level program in occupational or physical therapy; or become a child life specialist and work with children and their families in hospitals. Numerous other career fields also require the knowledge and skills you’ll develop through this program.

How to Apply

  • First, apply to TWU via ApplyTexas.org and choose Child Development as your major. You can check your status through the Office of Admissions Processing.
  • Participate in undergraduate orientation. This is mandatory for all first-year and transfer students with fewer than 30 credit hours.

Child Development @ the CHEC

Collin County students may take TWU courses at the Collin Higher Education Center (CHEC). Junior- and senior-level family sciences courses leading to a bachelor’s degree in child development are offered each semester. The department plans to offer all major courses necessary to complete a bachelor’s degree in child development (with no emphasis) within a two-year rotation.

To register for classes at the CHEC, you must be a current TWU student in good standing and must have met any prerequisites necessary to take a course. Log in to your Pioneer Portal account and select “Register for Classes” under “WebAdvisor.” Complete the “Term,” “Subjects” and “Location” fields, selecting “Collin Higher Ed. Center” for the location. Select the course(s) to add to your shopping cart.
