About Project EPIC

Project EPIC is an interdisciplinary collaboration between TWU’s education of the deaf and speech-language pathology (SLP) programs and the Dallas Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (DRDSPD). Project EPIC was created to equip future teachers of the deaf and speech-language pathologists with evidence-based practices (EBP) to improve the academic outcomes for school-aged students who are DHH. Project EPIC is funded by a grant through the Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

The components of the project for all scholars include:

  • Coursework in each major that includes current research and current competencies
  • Shared coursework across selected courses
  • Shared school-based practicum experiences at the Dallas Regional Day School Program for the Deaf with mentor teachers and mentor SLPs
  • Summer Institutes on the Denton campus focused on 21st Century Learning
  • Professional Learning Community Workshops on the Denton campus
