Student’s Choice

Vicki Jennings

Vicki Jennings
General Studies, College of Arts & Sciences

“Vicki goes above and beyond for her students and meets them on their level. She has a warm personality that allows her students to feel comfortable with her and understands that she is there supporting them throughout their degree. She’s the cheerleader that all of us need! Every meeting I have had with her has been an amazing experience. Even the students she doesn’t advise but interacts with love her.”

Dr. Vi Ho

Dr. Vi Ho
College of Nursing, Houston

“Dr. Ho has gone above and beyond to help with anything and everything this semester. I had issues with my registration for my minor courses, and regardless of the fact that she is a nursing advisor and not a psychology advisor, she assisted me in figuring out who it was that I needed to talk to be able to register for my psychology minor courses. She is also always so positive which makes me want to be like her when I grow up. I am so grateful to have her as my advisor!”

New Advisor of the Year

Amanda Espinoza

Amanda Espinoza
Department of Health Studies (now Health Promotion & Kinesiology)

“Amanda Espinoza is an outstanding academic advisor and mentor to her students. She is a selfless person who doesn’t hesitate to drop anything to help out students in the health studies department. I have had Amanda as an academic advisor for 2 years and her efforts towards advising never seizes to amaze me. It is clear to see that she truly cares about her students’ success and wants the absolute best for each student. Amanda could not be more deserving of this academic advisor award.”

Advisor of the Year

Janelle Davis

Janelle Davis
Department of Kinesiology (now Health Promotion & Kinesiology)

“As an undergraduate student and veteran starting out at TWU, my hopes were that I would meet and be advised by someone who could help facilitate my academic pursuits and also give me guidance that would put me at ease. Janelle Davis is an advisor that not only met my expectations, but continues to exceed them. She makes herself available, almost always has an answer and ensures I get one if she doesn't. I know that Mrs. Davis goes above and beyond because anytime she is mentioned in a conversation of undergraduate kinesiology students it generally ends with thorough praise for our academic advisor.”

New Advisor of the Year

Wylijanna Cole

Wylijanna Cole
College of Nursing

“Wylijanna has been an unbelievable support system throughout this scary new journey for me. I can always count on her. She is prompt when answering emails and phone calls. She is always happy to help. She makes me less nervous about school. If I am having trouble with anything, I know she will either have an answer or know where to find it. She is the best advisor I have ever had throughout my entire academic career. Wylijanna is the reason I am glad to have chosen TWU as the place to further my academic career. Thank you so much Wylijanna!!”

Advisor of the Year

Chris Cooper

Chris Cooper
School of Management (now College of Business)

“Chris Cooper has repeatedly helped me rework my academic career. He is friendly, he keeps up with me, and has gone above and beyond an average advisor. If it weren’t for him, I’m not sure I would have been half as successful in my college career. I owe him a lot, and a nomination seems like the least I can do for all the hard work he puts in daily for us students.”

Faculty Advisor of the Year

Dr. Ashley Bender

Dr. Ashley Bender
Department of English, Speech & Foreign Languages, College of Arts & Sciences

“Dr. Bender, before I even had her as an instructor, absolutely went above and beyond the call of duty. As a completely self-sufficient student, with few sources of support, Dr. Bender was incredibly influential in my continued education. After numerous family deaths and various tragedies that made me want to stop going to school, Dr. Bender was there. Supportive encouragement, practical solution-finding, and establishing a sense of accountability to succeed has been an anchor and a blessing. I don’t know of a single student who hasn’t so much as met her and will not immediately credit her superhuman devotion to teaching, and to helping each of us reach our goals. We’re not sure how she does it, but we’ve all become better students and people as a result of her contributions. Friends who are still in school, and also those long graduated, recognize Dr. Bender as an absolutely integral part of their success in school. Studying and working with Dr. Bender has been one of the most profoundly meaningful things that has ever happened to me. We are so thankful for her, and the work she does for TWU.”
