Academic Advising Awards

Texas Woman’s University Academic Advising Awards annually recognize individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of undergraduate students. All recipients will be honored at the Advisor Awards Ceremony held during our final Professional Development event for the year held in May every year.

Outstanding Academic Advising recognizes effective advising qualities and practices that distinguish the recipient as an outstanding academic advisor or faculty advisor, including, but not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates a caring, helpful attitude toward students
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills
  • Provides accurate information regarding university academic requirements
  • Makes themselves available and accessible to students, faculty, and staff
  • Makes appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Participates in advisor development programs
  • Engages in practices that promote and support developmental advising
  • Has knowledge of Texas Woman's University regulations, policies, and procedures

There are four categories within the Advising Awards. Please see each category for the specific eligibility:

  • New Advisor of the Year
  • Advisor of the Year
  • Faculty Advisor of the Year
  • Student’s Choice

New Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students. Nominees must spend at least 50% of their time on direct delivery of advising to undergraduate students and have served as a professional advisor for a period of three (3) or fewer years at TWU.

Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students. Nominees must spend at least 50% of their time on direct delivery of advising to undergraduate students and have served as a professional advisor for at least three years (36 months) at TWU.

Faculty Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students. Nominees must be full-time faculty members at TWU who spend a portion of their time advising/mentoring undergraduate students.

Student’s Choice

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students. Nominees must be staff or faculty members at TWU who advise/mentor undergraduate students. Students can nominate an undergraduate advisor whom they feel possesses these qualities.
