Writing Consultants

The Write Site at TWU is staffed by undergraduate and graduate students who use a mixture of directive, collaborative, active-listening, and questioning techniques in order to inspire and encourage students to express their ideas and communicate significant, arguable, and researchable topics; real-world and job related communications; and even autobiographical narrative to their audience.

Dr. Jennifer Phillips-Denny - Tutor Coordinator 

Welcome to the Write Site! I have been the coordinator of the Write Site at Texas Woman’s University since January of 2011. I also teach courses in the English Department. I have a variety of teaching experience gained over the past 16 years, including teaching numerous college English courses at TWU, UNT, Grayson College, and Colorado State University. I was the Assistant Director of Freshman English and the UNT Student Writing Lab from 2001-2006. My other experiences in higher education include managing course redesign projects, instructional design, learning technologies, and assessment. I received in B.A. in Sociology from Texas Tech in 1995, an M.A. in English from UNT in 1998, and a Ph. D. in English in 2001. My areas of scholarly interest are Victorian literature and rhetoric and composition.

I spend my leisure time taking care of my pets (We have a lot of pets!); reading and writing; playing video games with my husband, David, and my son, Devin; and trying to be on the water in a kayak as much as possible. I also dabble in gardening and some mixed media art, but I’m not very good at either, so I mostly stick with reading and writing!

I love managing the Write Site, working with our awesome writing consultants, and TWU students!

Sarah Abbe

Hello, my name is Sarah. I find the idea of writing a paragraph about myself to be worse than writing a twenty page research paper. I graduated from Tarleton State University with my Bachelors of English Literature. I’ve just started the Masters in English Literature program here at TWU and I look forward to the challenges that I am certain I will face. In my spare time I love to read dystopic novels, listen to really cool music that doesn’t play on the radio, and play with the most amazing weenie dog in the world (Lulu Gherkin). I love English more than the average person, and would love to help you with any issues you have during the writing process.

Marie Carrier

Hello, my name is Marie. I have always loved reading, which lead me to become an English major. A love for writing took a bit longer to develop. In my experience, the secret to fabulous writing is starting with a topic you love. If a topic interests you, it will make any assignment easier to deal with. I also work in the library on campus and I am very knowledgeable about the research tools offered there. In my spare time, I read a lot of mystery novels, watch more Law & Order reruns than I should, and spend far too much time on Facebook and Pinterest. I am looking forward to helping others develop and refine their writing skills.

Cheri Paris Edwards

Hello, my name is Cheri Paris Edwards. I am a graduate student in English and I expect to receive my Master’s in English Literature, Rhetoric, and Composition in December 2013. During my time in the TWU’s English Program, I’ve enjoyed study of writers Mark Twain, Katherine Chopin, Zora Neale Hurston, W.E.B. DuBois and William Faulkner as well as British writers John Milton, Mary Wollstonecraft and Chinwe Achebe. I write across genres, covering academic, professional and creative writing and I’m a published poet and author of two fiction books. I enjoy running early mornings with my doggie Mocha and snapping pictures of the lovely Texas skies. I love working with students and look forward to helping TWU students develop their writing ability.

Ginger Hughes

Let’s face it - writing is something you are going to have to do the rest of your college career and beyond. Whether it is drafting an expository essay for a composition class, writing a research paper for an upper-level class, writing a letter of application for a job, or filing reports for your future employer, chances are, you will have to write outside of your academic environment. In fact, most jobs include some sort of writing component, so knowing how to write well is a marketable skill that you can take with you for the rest of your life. My name is Ginger Renee Hughes, and I enjoy helping people shape their writing skills to become successful students and assets to potential employers. I graduated from the Honors Scholar Program with my bachelor’s degree from TWU in 2012, and I’m currently a graduate student working towards my master’s in English. I have experience in journaling, travel writing, fiction, as well as MLA, AP, and APA writing styles. When I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy traveling, attending concerts, visiting museums, and going to drag races.

Natalie Malin

Hi! My name is Natalie and I am a graduate student pursuing my dream of earning my Ph. D. in English. I enjoy helping struggling students learn to better express themselves via the written word, and have a soft spot for those with learning disabilities (both of my children are dyslexic).  I have taught several years as an associate English professor at Collin College and love the rapport--once established--in my classes. I earned my MA in Mass Communications/Journalism from Texas Tech and my BA in English/Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Some of my favorites are all things ethnic, live theater, reading (of course), supporting my kids at their athletic events, baking, watching Dancing with the Stars and bible study. Please note:  Those of you returning to academia after a long absence and/or are juggling many things at once—I understand and sympathize! :)

Victoria Reynolds

My name is Victoria Reynolds and I am earning my Masters in Counseling and Development. I love working with people and helping them discover multiple paths to self-expression! I look forward to helping you communicate your ideas, and write a concise, eloquent paper. Previously, I have assisted students with personal reflections, theory concept papers, and literature reviews. While I am happy to assist students with all types of papers, I personally enjoy working on papers that require depth, reflection, and insight. Outside the educational sphere, I am an animal-loving artist with a free spirit. I enjoy walks in the woods, discussing philosophy, and finding ways to lighten up life!

Erin Russell

Hello, I'm Erin Marissa Russell, an English junior who loves language. I was that kid who participated in all the spelling bees and spent recess with her nose in a book. Before beginning work at the Write Site, I worked at TWU's student newspaper, The Lasso, as an editor. I was also on the editorial team at the Brookhaven Courier, the student newspaper at Brookhaven College, and served as editor-in-chief for a year. Helping other writers explain their thoughts on paper is a lot of fun, and I consider myself lucky to have a job that lets me do what I love. When I'm not working, I enjoy reading, knitting, cooking, singing, and doing some writing of my own.

Sara Taboada

Hi everyone, my name is Sara! I feel like I have way too much to say and I am not really sure where to start. I might be a wee bit sarcastic, and obsessed with Hello Kitty, and cats in general. I'm pretty easy going and a little crazy, but in the good way. I earned my B.A. in Spanish from UNT in 2011 and am now going for a Masters in English at TWU, specializing in creative writing. I greatly enjoy writing and helping other writers refine their skills (I also like to rhyme...jejeje). For any ESL or ELL students I sympathize with you. English is my second language, too. The bottom line, the Write Site rocks! And as Desiderius Erasmus said, "The desire to write grows with writing."

Ann Truong

Why, hello there! My name is Ann Truong and I am currently a junior studying Interdisciplinary Studies, with a minor in Education. I have always been passionate about helping others think outside of the box to truly capture their inner thoughts and express it on paper. I have also been that kind of person who would twitch at the sight of your and you're being used as if they were "interchangeable." However, I am not here to judge! Just think of me as your "go to girl" when you're suffering from a little writer's block. I know what it is like to have the lovely distractions around when you have a ten page paper due the next morning. I've caught myself numerous times trying to check the latest updates on Facebook, baking some delectable goodies, and even grooming my five dogs! So, come on in! You are always welcomed to the Write Site when you are in need of some assistance!

Wylijanna Cole - Write Site & FYC Sr. Secretary 

Bonjour! I’m Wylijanna, reigning empress (read: senior secretary) of the Write Site Office and Office of First Year Composition. As the undisputed queen of the office, I can help you schedule appointments and answer questions about the Write Site and First Year Comp. program. I hold complete, unchallenged supremacy over offering courteous, well-informed assistance to people who call, email, or come into the office. I earned my B.A. in English from TWU in 2007; and, after a stint of teaching and wandering the globe, I consider it a privilege to work at this fabulous institution. I enjoy reading, playing board games, and going on adventures.

Cindy Dominguez - Student Assistant 

Hey there! My name is Cindy Dominguez and this is my 4th semester at TWU. I am a nursing major and I am hoping to be able to attend the Dallas campus nursing program soon. I started working at the Write Site in August and I love it! The people here are amazing. In my free time I like to play Rock Band with my boyfriend, play with my little pit bull puppy, and hang out with my friends. I also enjoy watching movies, I love Netflix, and doodling.
