Jana C. Perez teaches graphic design classes and has been a member of the faculty since 2007. Perez’s research and artwork address the media’s representation of female identity. Perez has given presentations at regional, national and international conferences including the Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities UCDA National Design Education Summit. Perez’ artwork has been featured in exhibitions nationwide including WomanMade Gallery in Chicago, Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Houston Center for Photography and The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science.

Events and Accomplishments

Jana Perez, TWU Professor in Graphic Design, in collaboration with Michelle Hays and Susan kae Grant, was a recipient of the 2015 American Inhouse Design Awards for her work on the book Seductive Alchemy.

TWU Graphic Design professor Jana Perez and two Alumni, Angilee Wilkerson and Mary Kathryn Wimberly are included in the exhibition Levitas: A Photographic Investigation of Weightlessness.  The exhibition is at the Bath House Cultural Center from December 6 - January 31 with a reception on December 6th from 7-9pm. Jana Perez / Graphic Design Faculty has an opinion piece published on She authored the piece, Words can hurt - in advertising and on the field,  with TWU Assistant Professor Mandy Golman. Congratulations Jana and Mandy!

TWU Graphic Design Faculty Jana Perez has work in the Pico House Gallery exhibition titled, From Her : An Exhibition by Women about Women.  Perez's piece titled "housewifegiant" consists of collage, solvent transfer and colored pencil.  The show will be on display from March 20 - April 6 with an opening reception and film screening Friday, March 21 from 6:00-9:00pm.

Graphic Design Professor, Jana C. Perez is participating in The OpEd Project's 2014 "Public Voices Thought Leadership" program.  This is a national initiative to increase the number of women contributing to newspaper opinion columns, television and radio talk shows which are forums traditionally dominated by men.

Asst. Professor Jana Perez and Adjunct Instructor Raul Varela presented research at the UCDA Design Education Summit held in 2012 at Virginia Tech. Perez and Varela lectured on "Curriculum that creates Designers of the Future", sharing program objectives, course projects and resulting student work that addressed the summit's topic of "Catch 22: being stuck between technology and design in the classroom". Among the ideas shared, TWU graphic design curriculum fosters "design thinking" through three main ideas: eliminating silos, fostering design leadership and creating interaction points.

Assistant Professor Jana Perez was awarded Second Prize by Ruth Fremson, the juror for Professional Women Photographer's International Call for Entry. The award includes $500, inclusion in a group show in Manhattan, an online gallery exhibition and inclusion in an article in PWP's Imprint Magazine. Ms. Perez's "Personify" was the artwork selected for the award. More information at
