FACULTY NEWS : 2014

TWU Alumni Katie Murray and Gallery Coordinator Vance Wingate were accepted into the 2014 "Art in the Metroplex" Works by 33 North Texas artists have been accepted for juried exhibition, which will be on view October 3-30 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.  A reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. October 3 at the Arts Center.  An awards ceremony will follow a talk by juror Sara-Jayne Parsons at 6:30 p.m.

Jana Perez, TWU Assoc. Professor in Graphic Design, has work in an exhibition, 'Seascapes and Water' at Contemporary Gallery Online. She also had an article in the August 17th, Sunday Boston Globe, 'Sketch Artists Lead to More Crimes Solved'. Congratulations, Jana!

TWU Sculpture Faculty Colby Parsons currently has a solo exhibition up at the University Art Gallery at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. The show is titled "Semiotics" and will run from August 18 through September 26th. For more info...

Photography professor Susan kae Grant is included in an exhibition at Conduit Gallery in Dallas, Texas, June 28 to July 26. The exhibition "Longitude/Latitude - Part 1" is an anniversary show for the gallery showcasing past and current works from the artists represented by Conduit. Congratulations Susan!

Danielle Khoury / TWU Adjunct Faculty - Photography, has her work featured on Light Leaked, an online photography journal. Congratulations Danielle!

Jana Perez / Graphic Design Faculty has an article, Ready or not; a new era of brand bravery, on the Chicago Reporter, in the June 9th edition.
Jana Perez / Graphic Design Faculty has an opinion piece published on mysanantonio.com. She authored the piece, Words can hurt - in advertising and on the field,  with TWU Assistant Professor Mandy Golman. Congratulations Jana and Mandy!

Vance Wingate / Gallery Coordinator will be included in the Artspace 111: Regional Juried Exhibition, June 20 to August 15. There will be a reception on June 20th at the Artspace 111 Gallery in Fort Worth. The exhibition was juried by Andrea Karnes, curator at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; and Ron Tyler, former director of the Amon Carter Museum.
Dr. John Calabrese / Professor of Art History, will have work in the upcoming 2014 - 29th Texas & Neighbors Regional Art Exhibition at the Irving Arts Center. The show will be May 7th to June 10th. For more information: Irving Arts Center TWU Photography Faculty Susan kae Grant is included in an exhibition "Women in Art & Academia" in the Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University.  The show will be up from May 4 - July 13 and includes 13 Female Texas Artists from universities all over the state.

TWU Sculpture Faculty Tanya Synar visited Arizona State University March 19th and gave an artist talk about her installation works that involve cast metal, video and audio.  She also had the opportunity to give a sand molding demo during her visit.

TWU Ceramics Faculty Colby Parsons has an exhibition entitled Convergence at the Living Arts Gallery in Tulsa, OK.  The work on display is a multimedia installation of video projections onto ceramic form.  The show will be up from April 4 to April 24 with an opening ceremony April 4 from 6-9.

TWU Graphic Design Faculty Jana Perez has work in the Pico House Gallery exhibition titled, From Her : An Exhibition by Women about Women. Perez's piece titled "housewifegiant" consists of collage, solvent transfer and colored pencil. The show will be on display from March 20 - April 6 with an opening reception and film screening Friday, March 21 from 6:00-9:00pm.

Photography faculty Susan Kae Grant will be recognized as the Society's Honored Educator at the 51st SPE National Conference for 2014.  Congratulations Susan!

Wichita Falls Museum of Art is hosting "Texas Sculpture Inside and Out", an invitational exhibition.The WFMA celebrates Texas sculptors through outdoor monumental sculptures, indoor sculpture and works on paper made by sculptors. TWU Sculpture Faculty Tanya Synar has work in the exhibition and on the cover of the show card. The exhibition will be on display from November 1, 2013 through February 22, 2014.

Chair of the TWU Department of Visual Arts , Michelle Hays, and Graphic Design Professor, Jana C. Perez are participating in The OpEd Project's 2014 "Public Voices Thought Leadership" program.  This is a national initiative to increase the number of women contributing to newspaper opinion columns, television and radio talk shows which are forums traditionally dominated by men.

TWU Ceramics Faculty Colby Parsons has a solo show at Brookhaven College in the Studio Gallery. Parsons' works consist of wall-mounted three dimensional ceramic sculpture with digital video projections.  The reception will be held January 30 from 6 to 8 pm.

Vance Wingate and Susan kae Grant are included in the 500X exhibition, "Creative Differences: 35 Years at 500X” This exhibition features a variety of media, including painting, photography, installation, assemblage, video, drawing, and performance by a selection of twenty-nine former members.  The show will be up from December 7, 2013 to January 5, 2014 with an Opening December 7 from 7-10pm.
FACULTY NEWS : 2013

Colby Parsons has work included in a group show "New Directions" at the Lacoste Gallery in Concord, MA. His ceramic and video  mixed media work is featured in an article on ArtDaily.org.

Susan kae Grant is co-juror for the exhibition "Tangibles: Beauty and Purpose in the Art of the Book", which will be on view September through November, 2013 at the Northern Arizona University Art Museum in Flagstaff, Arizona. TWU Photography Faculty Susan kae Grant's work is included in the 2013 SPE South Central Members Exhibition. The exhibition is at the Galveston College Art Gallery from September 24 to October 24.

FACULTY NEWS : 2012 

John Calabrese's works "Heart of the Matter", "Little Girl Lost", "Solar Wind", "The Magnetic Field (Concerto for Emily)" and "This Island Earth" have been selected for the “14th Annual Painting, Drawing, Photography & Print Juried Online International Art Exhibition” presented by Upstream People Gallery. Asst. Professor Jana Perez and Adjunct Instructor Raul Varela presented research recently at the UCDA Design Education Summit held this year at Virginia Tech. http://ucda.com/educonf.lasso

Perez and Varela lectured on "Curriculum that creates Designers of the Future", sharing program objectives, course projects and resulting student work that addressed the summit's topic of "Catch 22: being stuck between technology and design in the classroom". Among the ideas shared, TWU graphic design curriculum fosters "design thinking" through three main ideas: eliminating silos, fostering design leadership and creating interaction points.

Tanya Synar / Her work "Pangea" was selected for an exhibition at Blue Star Contemporary by curator Phillip King. The exhibition was May 31- August 20, 2012. The show is in conjunction with the conference, "Scale: A Gathering of Sculptors". bluestarart.org/

Dr. John Calabrese was accepted into the 500XPO 2012 at 500X Gallery in Dallas, Texas. The exhibition was juried by Aaron Parazette, nationally known artist from Houston, TX.

Pictures Are Words Not Known / Curator: Sean Justice / The LiShui Museum of Photography, LiShui, China [website] / October 30 to December 30, 2011 Assistant Professor Jana Perez was awarded Second Prize by Ruth Fremson, the juror for Professional Women Photographer's International Call for Entry. The award includes $500, inclusion in a group show in Manhattan, an online gallery exhibition and inclusion in an article in PWP's Imprint Magazine.
