TWU MOVES FOUNDERS’ DAY CELEBRATION TO EARLY APRIL
Texas Woman’s University has moved its annual Founders’ Day celebration from February to early April to coincide with the date the university was established by the state of Texas. TWU will host its next Founders’ Day Award Luncheon on Thursday, April 5, 2007.
“We will now celebrate Founders’ Day on or near April 6, the date legislation was signed forming what is now known as TWU,” Patrice Frisby, development associate for annual giving and coordinator of the event, said. “Since April 6 is Good Friday, the 2007 Founders’ Day luncheon will be held on April 5.”
Since 1998 TWU has presented Founders’ Awards at the luncheon to recognize businesses, individuals and organizations that have supported the university during its formative years and whose continued support ensures the future for each new generation of students. Nominations for the 2007 Founders’ Awards will be accepted until Dec. 15, and the recipients will be announced in January.
For more information, visit www.twu.edu/development/foundersday.htm or call 8-1-3867.
Founders’ Day was known as Pancake Night when the Ex-Students Association
started it in 1924. When the school was renamed Texas State College for Women
in 1936, the event was given its present name.
On April 6, 1901, Gov. Joseph D. Sayers signed legislation establishing what
is now known as Texas Woman’s University.
