Increasing Texas Woman’s University’s College
of Health Sciences’ visibility in academic circles and
beyond is the goal of Dr. Jimmy H. Ishee, the college’s
new dean. Dr. Ishee began his duties at TWU on Aug. 1.
“Though TWU
is known as a health science institution, many are unaware
of how diverse our programs are and how well we deliver them
to a variety of students,” Dr. Ishee said. “In
addition to traditional undergraduate students, more than
half of the students in health sciences are at the post-professional
or graduate level, and TWU excels at creating programs that
meet all their needs.”
“TWU is very
fortunate to have such an accomplished educator and administrator
joining the university,” Interim Provost Dr. Carolyn
Gunning said.
Dr. Ishee earned
his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education
from the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation
at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. He received
his doctorate of philosophy from the Department of Movement
Science and Physical Education from Florida State University.
Dr. Ishee most
recently served as the dean of the School of Health Sciences
at Georgia College and State University. Prior to his service
in Georgia, he spent nearly 20 years in various roles at the
University of Central Arkansas, including 12 years as associate
dean of the College of Health and Applied Sciences.
TWU’s College
of Health Sciences has more than 1,500 students and includes
the departments of communication sciences and disorders, dental
hygiene, health care administration, health studies, kinesiology,
nutrition and food sciences, the School of Physical Therapy,
the School of Occupational Therapy and the Institute for Women's
Health.
