Houston professor receives top national occupational therapy research award — 7/28/15

HOUSTON — Patricia Bowyer, a professor at the Texas Woman’s University Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center, is the only occupational therapy faculty member in the nation to receive the 2015 A. Jean Ayres Research Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association. The award is considered the preeminent recognition for research from the occupational therapy field.

Summer Reading Program benefits children, TWU students — 7/23/15

DENTON— Children’s voices and laughter ring out over the bookshelves as Texas Woman’s University students lead an audience of preschool and elementary children in stories, songs and crafts at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Denton. Graduate student named national Diversity Scholar — 7/21/15

DENTON – Reanae McNeal, a Texas Woman’s University doctoral candidate in women’s studies, will be able to advance her research and explore diversity skills at a national cultural conference thanks to her selection as a Diversity Scholar for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. As a Diversity Scholar, McNeal will receive a scholarship to attend the PastForward 2015 National Preservation Conference in Washington, D.C. this November.

A Loss of Sight, Never a Loss of Vision: TWU hosts third annual Camp Abilities — 7/15/15

DENTON – The third annual Camp Abilities Texas at Texas Woman’s University includes 28 very enthusiastic children between the ages of 9 and 18 who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind. The camp’s mission is to empower students with visual and hearing impairments to be physically active and productive members of their schools, cities, and communities, as well as to improve the health and well-being of people with sensory impairments.

DENTON — With articles on subjects ranging from Renaissance poetry to the Blues in Deep Ellum, Ibid: A Student History Journal — published by the Texas Woman’s University chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society — recently received the Gerald Nash History Journal Prize. According to Phi Alpha Theta, the Nash Prize is considered the preeminent national award for student history journals.

DENTON — Reanae McNeal of Davenport, Iowa, a Texas Woman’s University doctoral candidate in women’s studies and a master’s student in English, recently was awarded a prestigious fellowship from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She is one of only 14 scholars chosen nation wide for NCTE’s Cultivating New Voices Among Scholars of Color Fellowship, 2014-2016 cohort.
