TWU seeks volunteers for knee pain study (2014)

DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences is seeking volunteers for a study of the effects of tart cherry juice on improving joint function and reducing knee pain.

The study is open to women and men between the ages of 45 and 79 who have pain associated with knee osteoarthritis. Participants must otherwise be healthy and mobile and must be willing to consume either tart cherry juice or a juice without tart cherry for a period of four months. Participants also will undergo range-of-motion measurements, complete pain and physical activity questionnaires and provide a blood and urine specimen twice during the study.

Benefits of the study include promotion of joint health; measurements of height, weight and range of motion; and $100 compensation for time spent on the study. The total time commitment for this study is approximately three hours over four months. Three visits to the Denton campus will be required.
