TWU G-Force students to participate in statewide financial aid telethon Feb. 20
The College Access and Affordability Telethon will be broadcast in North Texas on Univision, local channel 23, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, as part of Texas’ Financial Aid Awareness Month activities.
“Our G-Force students are considered experts by the state in helping students and their families understand the college application, scholarships and financial aid processes in order to realize that a college education is within reach,” said Dr. Richard Nicholas, TWU vice president for student life.
“Many potential first-generation college students aren’t aware that there are a variety of financial aid and scholarship options available,” he added. “Getting this information, asking questions and hearing success stories from their peers helps first-generation students make the dream of a college education a reality.”
The Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) sponsor annual College Access and Affordability Telethons, which provide information to families and students about college financial aid during normally scheduled local news telecasts in English and Spanish throughout the state.
According to TG, using television stations’ ability to reach mass audiences provides key messaging on the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) forms. Callers receive assistance from trained volunteers from TG, the THECB, secondary and postsecondary institutions and community-based organizations.
