DENTON – Texas Woman’s University seniors Cristal
Retana and Diana Cruz are among only 210 students in the nation
selected to attend the 2009 Council on Legal Education Opportunity/Thurgood
Marshall ASAP (Achieving Success in the Application Process)
Prelaw Seminar in Los Angeles this summer.
“I have always
had a passion to become a lawyer,” said Ms. Cruz, a
government senior from Hughes Springs. “I hope to learn
efficient application strategies to select a law school that
is right for me and my future law career.”
Both Ms. Retana
and Ms. Cruz plan to attend law school after graduating from
TWU this May.
“Being accepted
to this seminar will give me the tools necessary to successfully
gain admission to law school,” said Ms. Retana, a pre-law
senior from Farmer’s Branch. “Attending this seminar
will benefit me tremendously as I look ahead to my future
career in law and politics.”
Ms. Retana recently
completed a Texas Legislative internship with Sen. Jeff Wentworth
(R-San Antonio) as one of only 14 students in the state selected
for the Senator Gregory Luna Legislative Scholars and Fellows
Program.
Ms. Cruz also recently
finished an internship at the Texas Legislature with Rep.
Veronica Gonzales (D-McAllen) as one of only 50 students in
the state selected for the Texas Legislative Internship Program
(TLIP).
The goal of the
ASAP Prelaw Seminars is to prepare talented students from
traditionally under-represented populations to successfully
gain admission to and succeed in law school. The ASAP program
focuses on aspects of the law school application process that
are commonly overlooked or undervalued by students during
the application process. For more information, visit www.cleoscholars.com.
