students to host dinner and fashion show Nov. 20

DENTON —
Students from Texas Woman’s University’s nutrition
and food sciences department will team up with students in
the fashion and textiles program to host a dinner and fashion
show on Thursday, Nov. 20. Event attendees are asked to bring
non-perishable food items or gently used clothing, which will
be donated to Denton County Friends of the Family.
The event will
take place at 6:30 p.m. in Hubbard Hall located on Administration
Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. For a map of the Denton

The event is part
of a class project for TWU nutrition students in the Quantity
Foods and Production class.
“As part of their class requirements, students are required
to plan and serve a meal at an event where at least 60 people
are in attendance,” said Kathleen Davis, visiting clinical
instructor for TWU nutrition and food sciences. “Usually
the class is assigned to an event already taking place, but
this semester students are planning an event to not only provide
a strong learning experience, but also to collect donations
that benefit a worthy organization.”
Dixie Allen, program
coordinator for TWU’s Project REV — Resources
for Ending Violence — will speak about preventing relationship
violence at the event. The evening also will include a fashion
show featuring more than 40 recycled or reused outfits designed
by TWU fashion and textiles students with the two best pieces
from the show auctioned to benefit Denton County Friends of
the Family.
Denton County Friends
of the Family is the sole provider of shelter and free outreach
services in Denton County to those who have been affected
by relationship violence and/or sexual assault. For more information,
