TWU School of the Arts to host guest lecturer

DENTON — The music department at Texas Woman’s University will present “Musical Forms Found in Carnatic Music,” an open lecture and demonstration with Dr. K. Omanakutty Amma of India, Thursday, Nov. 1 on the Denton campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in room 317 of the Music Building, located at Pioneer Circle and Oakland Avenue on TWU’s Denton campus. Dr. Omanakutty has served in many capacities, from lecturer to professor, in education and music institutions. She currently is professor of Ayurvedic music therapy at Pankaja Kasthuri Ayurveda Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram, India. She previously was dean faculty of fine arts at Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University from 2003 to 2005.
Dr. Omanakutty has won many prestigious awards for meritorious service to Indian classical music.
