The MBA with an accounting emphasis is designed for students wanting to continue their education in accounting. While a bachelor’s degree in accounting is not a prerequisite, students are expected to have had a minimum of 15 undergraduate hours in accounting. The courses are available either online and/or on Saturdays. The program includes some non-accounting courses which are offered in conjunction with EMBA classes.

What qualifications do I need to be accepted?

How long will it take to complete the program?

The time period will vary according to individual student schedules. The program is structured so students can graduate in just 15 months while continuing to work full-time.

When is the application deadline?

There is no specific deadline. Students can start the program in the spring, summer, or fall semesters.

Is there a requirement on GMAT score?

No. The GMAT has currently been suspended.

If I have a GPA lower than 3.0 in my undergraduate degree, will the school consider my application?

If your GPA is lower, your completed file will be evaluated by an Admissions Panel. They will make recommendations regarding a possible provisional admission to the program.

How will I know if I have been accepted to this program?

You will receive an admission letter from the graduate school indicating your status.

Is work experience required?

No.

Do I need an undergraduate degree in accounting?

No. However, many of the graduate accounting courses requires some previous accounting knowledge. Please refer to the graduate accounting course descriptions for prerequisites. (DNT- add link to graduate accounting course descriptions)

Is the MBA program at TWU accredited?

Texas Woman's University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

What is the format of the MBA with an accounting emphasis program?

This program is delivered through a combination of 51% on-line distance learning and 49% classroom instruction. Most accounting courses are totally online.

Can I still work full time while completing course work?

Yes. This program primarily is conducted on line or at night. The flexible course schedules allow you to maintain your regular work schedule as well as personal life commitments.

What can I do with an MBA with an emphasis in accounting?

  1. Teach at a community college. Community colleges require 18 hours of graduate level coursework in the teaching area.
  2. Become a public accountant. According to the September 24, 2007 issue of BusinessWeek, three of the Big 4 public accounting firms ranked in the top three best places to launch a career with starting salaries ranging from $50,000 - $55,000.

Will I be able to sit for the CPA exam?

Yes. A requirement to sit for the CPA exam includes 150 credit hours, 36 credit hours of which must be in accounting. Please refer to http://www.tsbpa.state.tx.us/ for requirements in the state of Texas.

Can I transfer credits from another institution?

Yes. As long as the grades are not more than 5 years old, a maximum of 2 courses or 6 credit hours may be transferred into the program.

How much is the tuition for this program?

You pay regular university tuition and fees with no added premiums. Each course costs you an estimate of $800.00.

Is this program designed for women only?

No. This program is specially designed for working professionals and is open to both men and women.
