To obtain the School Library Certificate, students must hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education and have two school years of classroom teaching experience from a public or accredited private school. Please see the School Library Certification Program page for the full list of requirements for the certificate.

To apply for the School Library Certification Program, please follow the instructions that apply to your situation:

  • Those without a master’s degree should apply to the MLS program. Please follow the instructions on the SLIS Master’s Degree Admissions page. Please indicate on the SLIS application form that you plan to pursue the MLS and the School Librarianship plan.
  • Those holding a master’s degree in a different discipline and who do not wish to obtain the MLS degree should submit all application materials listed on the SLIS Master’s Degree Admissions page. On the SLIS application form, please indicate that your application is for Graduate Certificate in School Librarianship Only.
