Class Schedule Changes (Adds-Drops-Withdrawals)
- During regular and late registration, a student may make changes in the schedule by conferring with the faculty advisor and making the appropriate change by logging back into the Pioneer Portal. This procedure is possible until the first day of the semester.
- After late registration, your faculty advisor or departmental office can provide you with a Drop/Add form which should be completed and signed. It is the student's responsibility to submit the form to the Registration Office in Denton, Dallas, or Houston. Distance Education students see directions on the DE web page.
Withdrawals are handled by the Office of Student Life:
Information on Withdrawing from the University - No classes can be added after the last day to late register. The Academic Calendar includes deadlines for making changes in schedule after registration and dropping a course without academic penalty.
Late Registration
Any student not completing registration before the ‘First day of classes’ (as published in the Academic Calendar) will be considered a late registrant. ALL LATE REGISTRATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY 5:00 PM, ON THE FOURTH DAY OF THE SEMESTER (as published in the Academic Calendar).
No registration is considered complete until late registration and fees are paid.
Waitlist
Certain class sections that are full may give students the opportunity to waitlist that class section. If a space becomes available in that course section, the first student on the waitlist will be notified through via Portal e-mail of a 24-hour period in which he/she may register for that course. When the 24-hour time period specified in the e-mail expires, the opportunity to register passes to the next student on the waitlist. Students are strongly urged to check their Portal e-mail frequently. Students can manage their waitlisted courses through the Portal. Students are reminded that waitlisted courses do not count as registered courses. Students who want to register for a closed class section are urged to register for another section to avoid being shut out of the course entirely, particularly if one’s financial aid award is dependent upon full-time enrollment.
Credit Hour Load Policy
An undergraduate student may not enroll for more than 19 semester credit hours during a fall or spring semester or more than 17 semester credit hours during the summer, including Maymester. Exceptions require the approval of the department chairperson/program director/associate dean. Exceptions will only be considered if additional course work is in the best interests of the student, the student is in good academic standing, and has a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the last two semesters. Students are expected to prepare for classes with a minimum of two to three hours of study for each credit hour.
