Dr. Rose F. Spicola, Cornaro Professor Emerita, co-founded the Fall Forum in Reading with Aileen Griffin, Department Chair of Curriculum and Instruction, in 1966. The purpose of the Forum was to bring outstanding scholars in Reading to Texas Woman’s University for the benefit of students and teachers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex.
Dr. Spicola spent 31 active years at TWU with one year as a Fulbright Scholar in Liberia, Africa. She was a leader in the development of the reading program at the University. During her tenure, the federated doctoral program in reading was approved.
To honor Dr. Spicola’s distinguished service, the Department of Reading celebrated her contributions with a renaming ceremony in 1997.
