Timeline for Admissions Process

Students are admitted to the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program once a year in the fall semester. 

 

Fall 2015 Entry

  • February 15, 2015 - Deadline for Graduate School Application and School of Occupational Therapy Application Submission
  • April 15, 2015 - Deadline for completion of all faculty mentor contacts
  • April 30, 2015 - Deadline for student/faculty mentor request submission to Coordinator
  • May 31, 2015 - Admissions decision notification

Admission Requirements

  • Current occupational therapy license or registration
  • Master level degree – students may enter with bachelor level education in occupational therapy and master level education in a related field
  • 3.2 minimum GPA on Master level work
  • Successful completion of Post-Professional OTD Application process, written application and interviews
  • Admission to the TWU Graduate School
  • Faculty mentor agreement

 Instructions for Submitting Application

 Step 1: Review website for information on the program and admission requirements

Step 2: Apply to Graduate School at Texas Woman’s University http://www.twu.edu/admissions/graduate.asp

International applicants must also satisfy the TWU requirements for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Satisfactory scores are posted on the TWU Graduate School Web Page http://www.twu.edu/admissions/international.asp

 

Step 3: Request an official transcript from all institutions of higher education attended.  Transcripts must show that your bachelor and master degrees were awarded.  If any transcript includes course work that was transferred from another institution, you must request a separate transcript for each institution from which you transferred courses.  The TWU office of Student Records checks transcripts very carefully.  A missing transcript for a course completed 10 years ago at a community college, can delay your admission, cause you to miss deadlines for scholarships, and result in late fees, etc.

Step 4: Complete the Doctor Occupational Therapy Application and Essay

 

Step 5: Email Completed OTD Application and Essay along with current resume to Dr. Diane Brown at dbrown@twu.edu

Faculty Mentor Selection

The individualized mentoring relationship is vital to successful completion of the OTD degree.  Work with a member of the School of Occupational Therapy faculty as mentor is required for progression and completion of the degree.  The selection process is one of mutual agreement.  A successful match for program entry is not guaranteed.

 

Step 1: Applications will be reviewed by the Graduate School and School of Occupational Therapy. 

 

Step 2: Applicants who meet basic eligibility requirements will be contacted by the OTD Coordinator.  A telephone interview will be scheduled.  During that interview, faculty areas of specialization and expertise will be discussed, and a list of appropriate faculty members will be given to the applicant, with contact information. 

 

Step 3: OTD Coordinator will contact the selected faculty members and notify them to expect contact by the applicant.  Faculty members will not engage in the selection process without this authorization. When contact is made the applicant and student will explore areas of common professional interest. After these interviews are completed, applicants and faculty members will submit their selections to the OTD Coordinator, who will match applicants with mentors. The mentoring agreement is not finalized until a recommendation for acceptance has been made to the graduate school by the Coordinator.
