GEAR UP
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a 5-year program funded by the United States Office of Education, specifically under the Higher Education Act. GEAR UP began to serve students at W. E. Greiner Middle School in the school year of 1999-2000. The program has followed these students to W. H. Adamson and Sunset High Schools in the Oak Cliff/Dallas area. GEAR UP will continue to provide services throughout their high school years until graduation.

The purpose of GEAR UP is to develop a comprehesive academic foundation for students to expand learning environments in and out of school, including strengthening connections with area colleges and universities, increasing parent involvement, and to enhancing staff capacity to deliver a standard-based instructional program based on college expectation.
