Post MS Certificate

Within the master's program there are several options for nurses who already have a master's degree in nursing to seek additional education through post-master's certification programs.

Scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are not required of applicants for post-master's nursing certification.

Individuals who have a master's degree in nursing may be considered for admission to a post-master's certification program in one of three areas:

  • Nurses who have a master's degree in nursing may seek preparation as a nurse practitioner in pediatrics, adult health, women's health,  family health, or acute care.

  • Nurses who have a master's degree in nursing may seek preparation in Nursing Health Systems Management.

If a student in one of the certification options is practicing as an advanced practice nurse and is currently credentialed by the Texas Board of Nursing as an advanced practice nurse, the advanced pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics, and advanced assessment courses may be up to 15 years of age when the student enters the certificate program. Otherwise, these courses must have been taken no more than 6 years prior to completion of the post master's certification program.
