PMEA is a student chapter of the Texas Music Educators Association.
Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College.
On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention. TMEA supports the future of music education by offering scholarships to music education majors and by sponsoring the Texas Future Music Educators, an organization through which high school students interested in careers in music education learn more about what to expect in their college education and future careers.

“PMEA, Pioneer Music Educators Association, is the music education chapter at Texas Woman’s University. We are very actively involved both on campus and in the community through our dedication to the advancement of music education and the study/performance of music throughout society. We participate in several events involving the musicians on campus and the regional high school music programs. We head many recruitment efforts within the Denton area and are always working to build the music education program. Although we are mainly a music education organization, we welcome any and all who wish to share their love of music.
PMEA is not a standard student organization. When you sign up to be a member you are gaining invaluable hands-on experience that you normally do not receive until you start teaching. We host the All-State Area Auditions and host the clinic/concert. We created and host Pioneer Honor Bands and Choirs for small schools (AAA and below). We get to experience these types of events that we will one day be attending without students and meet local educators who may very well be our future employers, colleagues or be sitting on our hiring committees. We strive each day to advocate for the importance of music in the school and in the world and that is our primary goal: to instill the love of music in those around us. Whether you are a performance major, therapy major, liberal arts major—whatever, we welcome you to join us in these endeavors.”
