TWU Libraries

Welcome Message from the Library Director

Welcome to the TWU Libraries. Many people when they think of libraries think of books. We hope you will think of much more. The Libraries are evolving to meet your need for the convenience of electronic information and services. While the TWU Libraries are proud to provide a diverse collection of 500,000 print titles for your teaching, learning and recreational reading, we are also pleased to provide access to more than 100,000 electronic books, 175 online databases and over 34,000 electronic journals. When you think of The TWU Libraries, our hope is you will think of library staff, the physical spaces and the collections.

Library staff are information experts who are skilled at helping TWU students and faculty succeed. In a time when there is an overwhelming abundance of freely available information, the ability to identify, locate, evaluate and effectively use the appropriate information for the assignment at hand is a critical skill. It is the librarian's job to help you develop information skills. You can reach a librarian in the Library, by phone or webpages through Ask a Librarian services. For your convenience, the Libraries have created online tutorials, three-minute instructional podcasts and provided online research tools such as RefWorks, designed to help you collect and cite scholarly information, and Central Search, a search engine created for simultaneous searching of multiple TWU Library databases and the TWU Library Catalog. Our goal is to make your library experience pleasantly productive, so please, ask for help.

In addition to using our myriad of web services, I hope you visit the beautiful Blagg Huey Library in Denton, the Parkland and Presbyterian campus libraries in Dallas, and Academic Resource Center in Houston. In addition to banks of computers, you will find the convenience of wireless access and laptop computers available for checkout, quiet spaces for reading, reflection and study; and social spaces for working in groups or socializing with friends.

As we are constantly looking for ways we might better serve you, I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please contact me at sbird1@twu.edu
