Application Deadlines

July 1st  Fall Semester Practicum
November 1st Spring Semester Practicum
April 1st Summer Semester Practicum

Practicum is a 120-hour, professionally-supervised internship in an approved school, public, academic, or special library. A successful TWU SLIS Practicum provides students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge, to practice newly-acquired skills, and to practice and perfect a professional manner. Practicum is a required course in the MLS degree program. A waiver may be approved according to SLIS rules and guidelines listed under the link “Waiver Guidelines” at the bottom of this page.

Students seeking School Library Certification who were admitted to SLIS on or after January 1, 2009, will be required to complete 160 hours to comply with the Texas State Board for Educator Certification’s new legislation.

Announcement: Practicum Applications for Summer 2010

Since some of the SLIS faculty will not be working full-time during the summer, we are changing the procedure for submitting Practicum applications for Summer 2010. This change will only apply to Summer Practicum students.

Please click on the "Practicum Application" link and complete the form, but leave the "Practicum Faculty Supervisor" field blank. Submit your Practicum application on the SLIS Academic Advising site using the Practicum Application Assignment Link found under the Submission button. The deadline for submitting a Practicum application for the Summer 2010 semester is April 1st. After your application is processed, a Practicum Faculty Supervisor will be assigned to you and then you will be given a registration code. You must use this code to register for Practicum so you will receive credit for the course.
