Overview

Physical Education Teacher Certification is one of the emphasis areas in the Department of Kinesiology at Texas Woman’s University.  Being a part of the teacher certification program opens many avenues of opportunity.  Completion of the degree and certification through passing the TExES (given by the State of Texas) provides the certified physical educator the possibility of a career in elementary and secondary general and/or adapted physical education and coaching.

A student interested in becoming a physical educator has two choices within the all-level certification program.  For those interested in becoming an elementary or secondary physical educator and/or coach the degree plan to follow is All-Level Physical Education Teacher Certification-Kinesiology.  When you become certified in physical education you will have initial certification. All certification majors are encouraged to prepare for an additional teaching field at the secondary level.  By preparing for a second teaching area during your time at TWU you will be ready immediately to take the TExES.

If you are interested in working with students with disabilities the appropriate degree plan is Adapted Physical Education Teacher Certification-Kinesiology.  Please see Dr. Silliman for the specifics about the All-Level Physical Education Certification Program with an emphasis in Adapted Physical Education.

Certification Requirements

Passing scores on TExES tests in physical education, and professional development.
The All-Level Physical Education Teacher Certification emphasis has two specialized degree plans:
