As a condition of admission, Texas Woman’s University requires all non-immigrant international students to maintain continuous medical and accident insurance coverage, including repatriation and medical evacuation benefits.  (www.twu.edu/o-sl/shs/InternationalHealth.htm).  The University sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan meets this requirement.  F-1 and J-1 visa students are billed the Foreign Student Insurance (FSI) premium each semester, along with tuition and fees.  Cost is approximately $1200 per year and is prorated and charged by semester.

An international student, serving as a Graduate Assistant, may qualify for Employee Health Insurance (which is handled through the Human Resources Office).  If a Graduate Assistant decides to enroll in the Employee Insurance, it is his/her responsibility to notify Student Health Services by the appropriate deadline in order to receive the Exception.

To request an Exception, the Student must complete and submit the FSI Request for Exception Form and proof of insurance coverage to:Coordinator of Student Health Insurance

Student Health Services

P.O. Box 425467

Denton, TX  76204

This information may be faxed to 940.898.3844

Approval of Request for Exception will result in removal of FSI charge from the Student’s Account.  The student will be charged only the Repatriation and Medical Evacuation insurance fee of approximately $30 per semester.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:  Requests for Exceptions will not be accepted after the 12th class day for Fall and Spring semester and after the 4th class day for Summer semester.  It is the student’s responsibility to submit a Request EACH semester.  Otherwise, the student will be charged for the University Sponsored Insurance Plan.
