Students will have the opportunity to take all required placement tests during the Orientation program. This service is provided so that each student will have the necessary placement information prior to meeting with their academic adviser and registering for classes. More information regarding each of the placement tests is located below. Additional questions concerning placement tests may be directed to Undergraduate Studies by calling 940.898.2367.
Mathematics Placement Test
The core curriculum requires mathematics. TWU will give an Accuplacer math test which will determine which mathematics class you should take. If you have taken another TSI-Texas Success Initiative math test (THEA, MAPS, Compass or ASSET) your score on the mathematics exam will determine your placement. (The Accuplacer exam administered for placement at Orientation will satisfy TSI-math requirements for TWU.)
Exemptions:
550 or higher on the SAT math,
22 or higher on the ACT math or
270 or greater on the THEA math
63 or higher on Accuplacer math.
Students who have previously completed a college algebra or calculus class are also exempt from the placement exams.
If you are exempt from taking the placement tests, please bring documentation (test scores or transcripts) with you to orientation in case we have not received your scores.
Science Placement Test
All new students who are planning on a science-based major such as nursing, dental hygiene, Pre-PT, Pre-OT, etc. are required to take the Science Placement Tests.
