TWU Knows Fashion!

Texas Woman’s University knows fashion and prepares students every year for careers in fashion design and merchandising. Fashion positions are exciting and demanding! Some jobs require people with a high degree of artistic creativity and originality, while others require people with technical knowledge, math skills and people skills.

Apparel designers and merchandisers need to have the ability to lead a team and interpret fashion trends, in addition to being able to sketch, sew, and make patterns or sell, coordinate and manage.

About the Fashion Design Camps

Held in North Texas on the beautiful Denton campus, the fashion design camp will feature design professors, graduate students, and industry professionals presenting topics that will be fun and educational for the young fashion enthusiast. Fashion Design Camp is perfect for your teen, preteen, girls and boys! Activities will include:

  • Fashion show production
  • Jewelry production
  • Hat making, model training
  • Beginning sewing
  • Beginning sketching
  • Screen printing
  • Denim deconstruction
  • Draping

There will also be classes on the basic principles and elements of design, fashion design, fashion shows, modeling, sketching, and color.

Supplies Needed

Campers will need to bring:

  • Extra shoes for modeling
  • Old T-shirt for a project
  • Denim jacket or old jeans for a project
  • Sewing kit including: scissors, stitch ripper & straight pins
  • Enthusiasm and imagination!

About the Fashion Camp (Blended Concepts of Design and Merchandising)

Also held in North Texas on the beautiful Denton campus, the fashion camp will feature design and merchandising professors, fashion students, and industry professionals presenting topics that will be both fun and educational for the young girl or boy fashion enthusiast. Activities will include:

  • Trend and color forecasting
  • Accessory and jewelry design
  • Brand Development and style interpretation
  • Art imaging and screen printing
  • Basic sewing project
  • Fashion promotion and fashion show production
  • Ettiquette, dress, and beauty essentials
  • Shopping excursion - tour premier retailers
  • Fashion exhibition finale and awards

Supplies Needed

Campers will need to bring:

  • Old T-shirt for a project
  • Sewing kit including scissors, needle and thread, and pins
  • Energy and creativity!

General Information

Camp Location, Dates and Times

All fashion camps will be held on the TWU Denton campus in the Old Main Building, fourth floor. Junior Fashion Design Camp: June 10-14, 2013. Teen Fashion Design Camp: June 17-21, 2013. Teen Fashion Camp: July 15-19, 2013. Junior Fashion Design Camp: July 22-26, 2013. The camps will meet from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Friday.  Enrollment for each camp is capped at 20 campers to ensure more one-on-one instruction.

Detailed directions to the campus, parking information, pick-up and drop-off locations, and additional details will be included in your confirmation email which will be sent to you two weeks prior to camp and after your registration and payment have been received. All event correspondence will be delivered to you by email. It is important to provide a current email address on the registration form and to check your spam box for information from Texas Woman’s University.

Registration Fees

Early bird registration is $425 per individual per camp.
Registration is $450 per individual per camp after the early bird deadline.
**No scholarships or financial aid are available through this program.

Lodging for Select Fashion Camps

Lodging with University Housing will be available to anyone attending select Fashion Camps (not all camps offer overnight package). Overnight Stay Package Option includes five nights lodging (Sunday through Thursday) in one of the TWU dorms, four evening dinners, and fun evening activities - chaperoned. Reservations are to be made on-line during registrations. For select camps, Overnight Stay Package is an additional fee of $335 during early bird registration and $360 during regular registration.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Registrants who find it necessary to cancel will receive a refund, less a $75 processing fee. To receive a refund, you must submit written notification seven days prior to the event start date (fax: 940-898-2711 or email ft@twu.edu). Refunds will not be issued once the event begins.  Programs in Fashion and Textiles reserves the right to cancel this event if sufficient enrollment is not met. In doing so, Texas Woman’s University’s liability is limited to the registration fee.
