Meeting OverviewThe Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) in partnership with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Texas Woman's University will be hosting a Texas College and Career Readiness regional meeting in your area. You are cordially invited to attend the Texas CCR Regional Round-up at the Embassy Suites DFW in Grapevine, Texas on November 2, 2009.
At this meeting, THECB and TEA staff will provide an update on House Bill 3, with specific attention to the new accountability measures related to college readiness. Additional presentations will focus on specific initiatives and resources designed to aid P-16 partnerships and vertical alignment efforts that affect long-term, systemic supports for college readiness (e.g. backmapping of the Texas College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), profiles of entry-level college courses, secondary-postsecondary alignment efforts).
Who Should Attend
We encourage regional school board members, secondary and postsecondary administrators, and lead faculty to attend. Business and community partners of education are cordially invited. Registration is required, but this is an open meeting. You may forward this invitation to your colleagues.
The Texas College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS)
Texas is now among the first states in the country to begin implementation of statewide standards, an initiative mandated by the 79th Texas Legislature. The Texas College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) dramatically increase the levels of expectation and achievement of students in the critical areas of English/language arts, social studies/sciences/mathematics, and science. Once fully implemented through end-of-course exams, the CCRS will pave the way to better alignment between the public and higher education curricula, thereby allowing students a more seamless transition from high school to college or the workforce. Copies of the standards are available for download at: http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/collegereadiness/TCRS.cfm.
