Do I need to know any Spanish to take the course?
No! That's the beauty of the course. If you can read English you can speak Spanish. If you have had some Spanish and remember only a little of what you have learned, Command Spanish® refreshes your memory as well as providing you a method that allows you to easily recall Spanish words and phrases.
How can I learn in such a short time?
Command Spanish® training includes the words and phrases that are most commonly used in your profession. Dealing mainly with the expressions that are closely related to your work and that will allow you to increase your effectiveness, goes a long way to build memory. Additionally, Command Spanish® instruction uses communication methods that will help you to easily recall the words and phrases you need. Grammar is not part of the instruction mode, although the words and phrases that are used are grammatically correct.
Do we have to come to TWU to take the course?
Although TWU has the facilities to deliver Command Spanish® instruction, the course can be delivered at any facility that has a computer and projector for a PowerPoint presentation, a white or black board or a flip chart. The environment should have chairs and tables that can be easily moved around from any disturbance and that will accommodate up to 25 people. Restroom facilities located close by is also necessary. If the course requires a lunch break, a catered lunch is ideal. However, if that is not possible, a lunchroom, cafeteria, or a nearby restaurant will help to allow the class to begin on time after the lunch break is recommended.
What materials do I need to bring to the classroom instruction?
All you need is a pen or pencil. You may want to bring some bottled water. Command Spanish® provides you with a manual you will use throughout the instruction. We encourage you to make all your notations in this manual. The manual includes two CDs that you will use to refresh and practice what you have learned.
What will I be expected to do during and after the instruction?
During the instruction you are expected to have fun! The method of instruction is interactive with your fellow students and your instructor. You will work in small groups, with a partner and as a group. After instruction you will be expected to use what you have learned as soon as possible and refresh what you have learned by using the CDs provided to you with your manual.
How long is the instruction?
The length of instruction depends on the profession. Most instructional periods are twelve (12) hours. Ideally, the 12-hour course is delivered over two 6-hour days punctuated by a lunch period and two or three 10-minute breaks. Some specialized courses may only take one 6-hour period of instruction, whereas other extensive courses may take 18 to 24 hours of intensive instruction. Ideally, the total instruction should be taken consecutively for a maximum effectiveness.
What does the instruction include?
The instruction of Command Spanish® includes intensive and compartmentalized Spanish words and phrases that are most often used in the work environment of individual professions. Students learn to control situations so that only the responses needed are funneled back. Choral response, modeling, role-playing and situation response by the students are used to maximize learning. Cross-cultural considerations by a knowledgeable instructor are also included in the instruction.
Can I use the material in the manual to instruct others?
No! The manual is for the exclusive use of the student and is not to be copied, and/or used to instruct others.
