Dr. Mohsen Kadivar, Visiting Professor of Religious Studies at Duke University, will give a presentation entitled “Politics of Islam: Searching for Common Ground.” His presentation will compare and contrast competing perspectives on the nature of religiosity, the role of Islam as a “public religion,” and the relationship between private sphere, civil society, and politics from an Islamic point of view. His presentation will challenge both the traditional authoritarian view of Islam in Muslim countries and the stereotypical view of Islam in the West.
