Start your engines: the 19th Annual Edible Car Contest will take place Friday, February 10th 2017!
The Edible Car Contest challenges DFW area students in grades 6-12 to combine their creative ideas with the principles of mathematics and physics. Students in teams of 4 (minimum of 2 female participants per team) build small cars entirely out of edible materials to be judged in several categories, including ingenuity, mobility and design. The teams then compete against each other for the fastest race times by rolling their cars down an inclined race track. Cash prizes totaling $600 are awarded. Registration opens Friday, December 9, 2016. All application materials (steps 1-3 below) must be received by February 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
Step 1: Complete the online Edible Car Contest Registration Form (Google Form).
Step 2: Submit payment for the team registration fee ($32). Secure online credit card payment (recommended) is now available. If you would prefer to submit payment via check, please make the check out to Texas Woman's University and mail to:

Step 3: Print and sign TWU's photo release form for minors: PhotoRELEASEMinors.pdf. Each participant and that participant's parent/guardian must sign a release. Submit the signed release forms via scanned email attachment (recommended) to email@example.com. Teams may also fax their forms to 940-898-3366, or mail them to the address listed above.
Confirmation: Confirmation will be sent via email once all materials (steps 1-3) have been received by our office. Please allow 2-3 business days for processing. If you have not received a confirmation and would like to check on the status of your registration, please email Edible Car Contest registration at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rules, Deadlines & Judging Criteria
The 2017 Edible Car Contest will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10th.
8:30–10:30 a.m.: Check-In and Welcome Announcements. Students will be able to set up/make adjustments to their car in the Hubbard Hall Southwest ballroom.
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Round 1 and 2 Judging
11 a.m.: Light refreshments served
12-12:30 p.m.: Judges calculate scores
12:30-1:30 p.m.: Awards Ceremony and Closing Remarks
- Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m. All teams MUST be checked in by the 10:00 a.m. deadline. We strongly recommend arriving early.
- After check-in, students will have time to assemble or make adjustments to their cars at their team table before lining up for judging.
- Please note: although some refreshments will be provided, we recommend that students bring a sack lunch. Most on-campus restaurants will close by 1:30 p.m. on Friday. List of family-friendly restaurants near TWU (.pdf file)
