Synopsis: Becoming truly sustainable communities and societies is essential to the success of democracy, survival of our economy, and the improvement of the human condition everywhere on Earth.  The involvement of citizens of all communities and societies, from local to global, is required.  The presentation, Sustainability and Civic Engagement:  From Texas to Thailand, will explore the importance of citizen involvement in the development and maintenance of sustainable communities and societies, with both local and global examples.  Sustainable communities are all-inclusive environments. Each component, whether it be clean water and water conservation;  the fit, form and function of building design; alternative agriculture, the accessibility to and abundance of performing arts; renewable energy; or adequate health care, to name a few, are of integral importance.
