Regular Admission
Students who seek admission to Texas Woman's University for their first semester in college will be admitted if they meet all of the following criteria:
- graduated from a regionally accredited high school*
- attained at least a 2.0 high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale
- have class ranking which places them in the top 50 percent of their high school graduating class
- scored at least 1000 (verbal and math sections only) on the SAT OR scored 21 or above composite on the ACT Assessment.
- completed at least 14 academic credits of the new recommended Texas high school graduation program:
English (4)
Math (3 including Alg II)
Science (2)
Social Science (2- ECO and GOV required)
Academic Electives (3)
*A high school equivalency diploma (GED) may be accepted as equivalent to graduation from accredited high school and as equivalent to the minimum secondary school units required for admission.
Assured Admission
First-time freshmen applicants will be assured admission to Texas Woman's University if they have:
- graduated from a regionally accredited high school in Texas within the last two years
- have class ranking which places them in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class. Class rank shall be based on the end of the 11th grade, middle of the 12th grade, or at high school graduation, whichever is most recent when the application is complete.
Although in the above instance admission to TWU is assured, ACT or SAT test scores are required to ensure proper advising and course placement.
Provisional Admission
Provisional Admission is for freshman applicants who do not meet all of the Assured Admission or Regular Admission requirements. All candidates for provisional admission are reviewed individually by an Admissions Committee to determine if an offer of admission will be made. Additional credentials or materials may be requested from applicants being considered for provisional admission.
Note: Students admitted under the provisional category are required to take University 1011, a one-credit course emphasizing college study skills, to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 14 credit hours (if full-time students), and to meet with an academic adviser three times each semester during the first 30 hours of college work. Upon completion of the first 18 credit hours of coursework at TWU with a GPA of 2.0 or better, the provisional status will be removed.
Home Schooled
Home schooled applicants who seek admission to Texas Woman's University for their first semester in college should submit the following documents:
- an official transcript showing completion of a secondary school education and the date of completion
- official test score results from SAT or ACT
Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will have their application reviewed by an admission officer.
Applicants will be given the opportunity to provide additional information to support their request for individual consideration.
Re-Admission
An application is not required if attendance at TWU is within the last two calender years.
A student who has attended another institution since her/his last enrollment at TWU must submit an official transcript from each additional school attended.
A student who was once admitted and enrolled as a degree-seeking candidate at TWU but who has not enrolled for at least two calendar years is required to apply for readmission. Only a completed application is required. No application fee is needed.
Individual TWU schools, colleges, or programs may have additional readmission requirements. Please check with them.
It is recommended that application for readmission be completed and returned to the Office of Admissions at least two weeks prior to registration to ensure adequate processing and notification.
Adult/Non-Traditional
An applicant who does not fall into any of the beginning freshmen categories listed above may apply for admission to TWU as an Adult/Non-Traditional student, if all of the following conditions are met:
- has a high school diploma or GED
- has been out of high school for five years
- has not enrolled in any college or university
Applicants must submit an application form, fee, and official high school transcript or GED. Official THEA scores are also required prior to registration.
