Before graduation, a final feather in her cap

May 6, 2024 – DENTON – Talk about adding a nice feather to your cap – even before donning a cap and gown.

Texas Woman’s College of Business student Dayssy Moreno was one of 47 accounting students from across the state of Texas to receive the Accounting Excellence Award from The Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. She received the award about a month before she is to graduate with a BBA in accounting.

“I’m very thankful to have received it,” Moreno said. “I was really surprised to hear that I was chosen for it since I’ve never been awarded something like this. I think this award is a great way for the CPA community to recognize and encourage students who plan to go into the same industry.”

The TXCPA presents its Accounting Excellence Award to an outstanding accounting student at Texas colleges and universities participating in the programs of the Accounting Education Foundation.

After graduation, Moreno plans to pursue a certified internal auditor license and enter the internal auditing field. She became interested in finance as a young child.

“From a pretty young age my parents taught me the importance of money management, but I always found it baffling that we weren’t taught basic accounting skills in school growing up,” Moreno said. “I grew up believing that people who were financially smarter had a higher chance of being successful and I wanted to be one of those people.”

Moreno has had a well-rounded experience at Texas Woman’s.

“The majority of my time at TWU was spent online since it’s what worked best for my schedule, so when it came down to fall semester of senior year I was both excited and nervous to do in-person classes again,” Moreno said. “I felt like it was my first day of school ever, but I ended up loving my time on campus. I would say this award is definitely at the top of my list of achievements along with being on the chancellor’s list multiple times.”

Every recipient has his or her name engraved on an individual plate for the permanent Accounting Excellence Award plaque at their school. In addition, an individual recognition plaque is presented to the recipient at the local TXCPA chapter meeting.
